July's A Month For Recreation

Dubbed “A City Within a Park,” Boca Raton is built for celebrating National Park and Recreation Month.

Recognizing the important role parks play in establishing and maintaining the quality of life for individuals and their communities, the National Recreation and Park Association designated July as National Park and Recreation Month.

The Boca Raton community is home to more than 50 parks, and the Greater Boca Raton Beach and Park District owns or funds some of the biggest and best.

Parks like Sugar Sand, Patch Reef, Ocean Strand and the Boca Raton Swim & Racquet Center provide the community with athletic fields, walking trails, relaxing venues, places to play, and spots to commune with nature. There's a District park that offers something for everyone.

Located on Yamato Rd., between Military Trail and Powerline Rd., Patch Reef is a 55-acre park with athletic fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, a playground, and a fitness trail.

Sugar Sand Park is a 132-acre park on Military Trail just south of Palmetto Park Rd. Much of Sugar Sand's land is set aside for conservation. The park allows families to have fun and learn at the same time.

Ocean Strand Park is a 14-acre parcel that stretches from the beach to the Intracoastal Waterway. The first phase encompasses the 11 acres stretching from A1A to the Intracoastal, creating Boca Raton's newest natural waterfront park.

The Boca Raton Swim & Racquet Center offers swimming and tennis programs for all levels and ages at its St. Andrew's Blvd. location. Users improve their skills and fitness with professional instructors, leagues and tournaments, or by simply having fun with friends and family.

With so many recreational choices, keeping track of which park offers which activity isn't always easy. Here's a list of some of the activities that can be enjoyed at Greater Boca Raton Beach and Park District Parks.
